FAQ

Here’s a few things you may be curious about

  • How much do the pre-made covers cost?
    • The pre-made, full wrap covers (including the ebook front, the spine and the back) cost $69.

  • What about just ebook covers? Can I just buy the ebook cover?
    • Sure. Just the ebook cover is $59. We do suggest spending the extra $10 for the spine and back, even if you don’t need it now. In 6 months, or maybe even a year, you may want your book in print.

  • What if I don’t see anything that I like, but I like your style?
    • You can order a Custom Cover, and those start at $90. We’ll walk through the process with you, and produce a cover that’s designed specifically for your needs.

  • What if I don’t need the print for a long time? Is there an expiration on the spine and back?
    • No, not at this time. If it takes you a year to be ready for print, we will keep your spine and back for that time.

  • What kind of files do I get when I buy a pre-made cover?
    • Several:
    • The ebook file in a large, high resolution file, good for printing or KDP uploading, and also two smaller sizes for use on the web.
    • A JPEG of your “cover flat” which is the front, spine and back, for use online to promote, or whatever you want to do with it (though this is NOT what you use for print uploads, that is a different file).
    • Also, when you have a final, formatted page count and blurb, the PDF file for print upload to sites like CreateSpace.
    • You also receive a promotional graphic with your cover on it, in multiple sizes for promotional use.

  • What if I want to put my book up for pre-order, but I don’t have the final print formatting done?
    • I can hook you up. 🙂
    • I can certainly send over the ebook files first, for those pre-order needs, and when you are ready for the print version, I can send those files over at a later date. Just let me know what you need.

  • What is the difference between formatted pages and manuscript page count?
    • A lot!
    • Formatted pages are how the pages are laid out in the book, including margins, font size, spacing, page numbers, and headers and footers.
    • Manuscript page count of your document, honestly, means very little when formatting a book. The font, size, spacing when one drafts and edits their manuscript is rarely the same as what the formatted pages look like.
    • Formatting takes into account the book size, and all those minute details to make a book look beautiful in print.
      • I have seen 130 page ebooks formatted into lovely 200+ page print books, and not because they have a bunch of filler in them, either, it’s all the book. It is just how the formatting was tweaked to make each page look its best. So just because your Word document is a 200 page story, it doesn’t mean that your print book will wind up being 200 pages. It may be longer, and usually is.
      • Formatted page count is what is used to determine how wide your spine will be on your book. That width determines the size of the spine font, the type of usable font, and any other tweaks on the spine that could make a difference in the design.

  • How do you do custom book designs?
    • Custom book cover design starts at $90, including a $25 non-refundable deposit that will go toward the balance of your cover art.
    • In order to design your book, I have a special form that I have you fill out, where you can specify any details you’re looking for with your cover, including hero and heroine descriptions as well as links to stock art that you like and together we come up with what you’re looking for.

  • What if I want some of the design elements?
    • It depends on what you’re wanting. Upon request some of the following design elements are available if you would like to use them for your own promotional material:
      • The title in a PNG format on a transparent background.
      • Your Author name in a PNG format on a transparent background.

  • But what if I want the Photoshop Files?
    • I do not give those out.

  • I’m needing a cover artist for a group project.
    • Please email me with the details, I’m happy to be a part of your group project.
